Help us build community in Western Montana by providing open, affirming environments for people of all sexual orientations and gender identity expressions by joining our dynamic Board of Directors.

About the role:
The Center Board of Directors works in partnership with staff and community to guide long-term vision, ensure responsible governance, and strengthen the organization’s sustainability. Through strategic planning, fiduciary oversight, and active fundraising, the Board helps ensure The Center continues to serve as an affirming, resilient community hub for 2SLGBTQ+ people across Western Montana.
About the commitment:

Serve a two-year term (at minimum) with potential of renewal for up to two additional terms.

Participate in a new Board member orientation.

Attend monthly Board meetings and actively participate.

Actively participate in Board committees and/or task forces.

Volunteer an average of 3 hours per month at various Center-sponsored events.
About the term:
The Board Member term will begin in April or May of 2026 and is a two-year term ending in April or May of 2028. Board Members start with a two-year term and, if desired, can choose to renew up to two more times, for a maximum of six consecutive years of service.
Who we're looking for:
The Board Member must be committed to the 2SLGBTQ+ community based in Western Montana and should bring experience or interest in 2SLGBTQ+-related issues, nonprofit governance, and/or strategic visioning and a strong desire to volunteer their skills. For 2026, we are aiming to onboard 1-3 new board members.

The process:
All applicants will receive follow-up communication about their application. Candidates selected to move forward will be invited to a casual, in-person conversation with the current ED and/or Board Chairs to learn more about The Center and explore mutual fit. Conversations are anticipated between late March and April.
What if I don’t get selected?:
We are selecting only a limited number of new board members due to The Center beginning a strategic planning process in March. There will be more opportunities in the future to join the board and we encourage you to stay involved, as there are many ways to plug in and support! Please let us know if you are interested in supporting The Center in other ways–e.g. Fundraising, Rainbow Ball, event support, etc.
